How to Convert .KDZ Files to .IMG and .BIN Files or .MBN

KDZ is the file compression format LG uses for all their android devices at least, most of them. Meanwhile, if you have any need to flash stock firmware on your LG android device, you would need to download the stock firmware which is in .kdz format and flash it on your LG Android device using LG Flash Tool as explained here.

However, there are other LG Flash Tools which does not support the official LG android devices firmware file format which is the kdz but they are rather easier to flash stock firmware on LG Android devices. Besides the simplicity, most of them even suppports more LG android device models. An example of such LG flash tools is discussed here though it supports .tot files, it works better.
Convert .kdz file to .bin, .img and .mbn files

That's that on flashing stock firmware on LG Android device. What if you have a dead LG Android device at hand -we usually refer to this as brick or bricked LG Android devices. Your LG Android device is a brick or bricked when it no longer comes on, does not boot to android or recovery. Fails to enter download mode or does not even show any sign of live at all.

Funny? There are soft brick and hard brick -you should be able to categorise brick status thus; from fair to worse based on the aforementioned list.

So, to unbrick LG Android devices, you don't use stock firmware rather, you use .img files or .mbn files. Even .bin files can perform miracles when it comes to unbricking LG Android devices.

Now, how do you get these LG firmware files since LG does not officially distribute their firmware in any of these file formats? This is what brings about this topic: How to Convert .KDZ Files to .IMG and .BIN Files or .MBN.

Here, I discuss the step by step guides on how to convert the official LG firmware in KDZ and convert it to either .IMG, .BIN or .mbn file formats.

How to Convert KDZ File to BIN File Format

1. Download your official LG Stock ROM or LG Stock Firmware from here

2. Download LG Firmware Extract from here. This file will help you do most of the leg works required.

3. LG Firmware Extract is compressed in a .rar/.zip file format so, unzip it and move it to your PC's desktop.

4. Open LG Firmware Extract folder and launch/open LG Firmware Extract.exe as admin.

5. Slot a USB Flash Drive into your PC USB port. You may also use SD Card in a card reader.

6. In the Flash Drive, create a new folder. For easier identification, rename it to your phone model.

7. Copy the KDZ Firmware you downloaded into the new folder you created in your Flash Drive.

8. On LG Firmware Extract, click Working Folder and then, navigate to the folder where you copied your KDZ File on the Flash Drive.

9. Still on LG Firmware Extract, from KDZ/TOT section, click OPEN and select the KDZ file then, click Extract KDZ.
Wait for the extraction to complete and proceed.

10. Now, from DZ Section, click OPEN and select the file that ends with .dz in that folder and then, click Extract DZ. Wait for the extraction to complete.

11. Now, check the folder you created on your SD Card. You will see that all the firmware partitions have been created there and that they are in .BIN file format.

If the program you want to use to flash or debrick your LG Android devices requires .BIN file, such as Tool Studio eMMC Download Tools, you may now proceed to using those files you created from the offial LG firmware to flash and debrick your LG Android device.

How to Extract .KDZ File and Convert it to .IMG File Format

1. Follow the process discussed above. And when you have successfully converted your KDZ file to BIN file, you may now proceed to the step 2 here.

2. Copy any or all of the BIN files extracted from the .KDZ file in the step one above and rename them (just their extension). Thus; if the file is aboot.bin, rename it to aboot.img
Make sure you do not tamper the actual name, just the extension else, your LG Flash Tool or Qualcomm Flash Tools to be specific, may not recognise the file hence; it will be invalid.

3. Now, once that's done, you may proceed to flashing the img files on your phone.
